Key West week - the bits I like the best

KEY WEST COOL

24 kids, all of soldiers currently deployed to Iraq, are staying over in Fort Zachary Taylor.  How cool is that.  The last time I looked around the Fort, last summer, it was quite a scary and intimidating place - and that was during the day!

I have a really cool photo of it but Blogger won't download it, which is really annoying.

KEY WEST EATING

I see The Cafe, A Mostly Vegetarian Place has secured #1 spot for all restaurants in Key West.  Great job and well deserved.

From the latest review on TA:

I am not a vegetarian but I enjoy vegetarian food. Enjoyed the veggie sandwiches and especially the agave-white pepper and lavender tonic - a really refreshing drink when the heat was brutal. Service was quick and friendly. Food was fresh and tasty.

Sounds yummy!

KEY WEST STRANGE

For such a small island, isn't it strange that the round-Key West swim is 12.5 miles long!

KEY WEST GOOD MARKETING

Congrats to the Key West Hyatt.  It's good looking hotel and I often see them doing really good online marketing for their Key West resort....  Relax, Recharge And Reflex This Summer At A Leading Key West Resort
And, no, I have no vested interest!

And well done Publix for a soccer world cup themes ad in the Key West Citizen. I love your cream filled donuts.

KEY WEST STRANGE - 5 OUT OF 10 ON THE STRANGE-OMETER

Women baring it all, nipples too, on Duval Street.  Love it in a club or bar, but the main street is something else.  Keep it private!

KEY WEST 'PURPLE HAZE' RANDOM THOUGHT

If Key West had a Ben and Jerry's special flavor named after the city what would it be?

KEY WEST SHOPPING

The Orlando Sentinel updated its page on Key West shopping this week.  Here is what it had to say:

Shopping in Key West is a must! From t-shirt and souvenir stores along Duval Street, to the classic handmade Kinos sandals, there is something for locals and tourists. Don't forget to buy a piece of key lime pie too. Visit www.shopkeywest.com for more information on shopping in the Southernmost city.

Well, for me, the souvenir stores are dreadful and I'd not miss it if 90% of them disappeared overnight.  In fact, in their place we might get some decent shops!  There are some notable exceptions.

As for the Key Lime pie - go Kermit and his Shoppe.  But do you really have to spell Shoppe like that?!

FAMOUS KEY WEST BLOGGERS

Conchscooter is out of town this week in South Carolina.  He has a great pictures as always including of a Turkey Shoppe.  You can't get away from the Shoppe!

This Week on the Island features the return to the seas of the Western Union.  She looks fantastic and I can't wait to take my pictures of her during my November visits which I will post here.

That's enough for now.  It's a wonderful (hot and humid) world.  Bye.
